Introduction

The European elections have become a moment for resetting the long term agenda of the European Union. To help candidates and the other political parties position themselves on long term issues, a number of forward-looking documents have been published. In the case of European institutions, Member States have drawn up the European Council’s Strategic agenda – a kind of strategic contract with the next Commission – and testing ideas for the future, agreed on 27 June. The European inter-institutional foresight system (ESPAS) published its own document on 15 April. Other documents from President Macron and Mario Draghi are also available.

In this online event, Dr Franck Debié, Director of the Library of the European Parliament provided a personal guided tour through these forward looking texts highlighting key aspects influencing the EU’s future to 2030, all fresh from the print by Macron, Draghi, Letta … or the European inter-institutional foresight system (ESPAS).
